2. 私は南アフリカで生まれ育ちました。
小さいころから、本を読むのが大好きで、
特に科学や宇宙の本をよく読んでいました。
I was born and raised in South Africa.
Ever since I was little,
I loved reading books,
especially about science and space.
3. 17歳のとき、
より大きなチャンスを求めてカナダに移り、
その後アメリカへ移住しました。
At the age of 17, I moved to Canadain search of bigger opportunities,
and later, I moved to the United States.
4. そこで起業し、
テスラやスペースXなどの会社を立ち上げました。
There, I started my own businesses,including Tesla and SpaceX.
5. テスラでは電気自動車を作っており、
ガソリンを使わないcleanな未来を目指しています。
At Tesla, we make electric cars
and aim for a clean future without gasoline.
6. スペースXではロケットを開発し、
人類を火星に送るという壮大な夢に挑戦しています。
At SpaceX, we develop rockets
and challenge ourselves
to achieve the grand dream of sending humans to Mars.
7. また、ニューラリンクという会社で、
脳とcomputerを結ぶ技術の開発にも取り組んでいます。
I am also working on technology
that connects the brain
and computers at a company called Neuralink.
8. プライベートでは、
私は父親でもあります。

In my private life,

I’ve visited Japan several times,

イーロン氏は、アフリカで生まれ育ちましたが、

今日は、私の子ども時代のことを
もう少し詳しく話したいと思います。

Today, I’d like to talk a little more
about my childhood.
2. 私は南アフリカのプレトリアで生まれ、
そこで育ちました。
I was born and raised in Pretoria, South Africa.
3. 学校では、勉強は得意でしたが、
あまり楽しい場所ではありませんでした。
At school, I was good at studying,
but it wasn’t a very fun place for me.
4. 私はとても内気で、
あまり友だちが多いほうではなかったんです。
I was very shy and didn’t have many friends.
5. それに、よくいじめられていました。
特に、中学生のころはつらい時期でした。
Also, I was often bullied.Middle school was a particularly tough time
for me.
6. でも、私は本を読むのが大好きで、
図書館で何時間も過ごしていました。
But I loved reading books
and spent hours in the library.
7. 特に好きだったのは、
SF小説や科学、エンジニアリングの本でした。
I especially liked science fiction novels,
as well as books about science
and engineering.
8. コンピューターにも夢中で、
10歳のときに最初のコンピューターを手に入れました。
I was also obsessed with computers,
and when I was 10, I got my first one.
9. それから独学でプログラミングを学び、
12歳のときにゲームを作って売りました！
Then, I taught myself programming
and, at 12, created and sold my first video game!
10. 成績はとてもよかったですが、
授業は退屈に感じることもありました。
My grades were very good,
but I sometimes found classes boring.
11. 私は「もっと未来のことを学びたい！」と思い、
学校の勉強だけでは物足りませんでした。
I wanted to learn more about the future,
so school studies didn’t feel like enough for me.
12. 両親についても少し話しましょう。
父はエンジニアで、母はモデルで栄養士でもありました。
Let me tell you a bit about my parents.
My father was an engineer,
and my mother was a model and a nutritionist.
13. でも、
私の両親は私が幼いころに離婚してしまいました。
But my parents got divorced when I was young.
14. その後、私は父と一緒に暮らしましたが、
それはあまり幸せな時間ではありませんでした。
After that, I lived with my father,
but it wasn’t a very happy time for me.
15. 家にいるよりも、本を読んだり、
プログラミングをしたりするほうが楽しかったです。
I preferred reading books
and programming rather than being at home.
16. 友だちは少なかったですが、
私と同じようにコンピューターや
科学が好きな子とは仲良くなれました。
I didn’t have many friends,
but I got along with kids
who also liked computers and science.
17. そして、17歳のとき、
「もっと大きな世界を見たい！」と思い、
南アフリカを出ることを決意しました。
At 17, I decided to leave South Africa
because I wanted to see a bigger world!
18. こうして、私はカナダへ旅立ち、
新しい人生を始めたのです。
That’s how I set off for Canada
and started a new life.
