動物園に行くと、私たちは動物を見ています。
しかし、もし動物たちも私たちを観察していたらどうでしょうか。
今回は、一頭の象になったつもりで、人間たちや故郷について語ってもらいます。

第2章 人気者も楽ではない

だが同じ場所で一時間も立っていると、誰も撮ってくれない。

第8章 象の不思議な能力

吾輩は象である。人間には聞こえない声を使うことがある。
I am an elephant. Sometimes I use sounds that humans cannot hear.
その声は遠く離れた仲間にも届く。
Those sounds can reach companions far away.
人間の電話ほど便利ではないが、なかなか役に立つ。
It may not be as convenient as a telephone, but it works well.
象の世界にも立派な通信手段があるのである。
Elephants have their own communication system.
象の不思議な能力② 驚きの記憶力
吾輩は象である。昔歩いた道を覚えていることがある。
I am an elephant. I can remember paths I walked long ago.
水場や安全な場所も忘れにくい。
I rarely forget water sources or safe places.
だが一番覚えているのは、ご飯の時間かもしれない。
But perhaps what I remember best is feeding time.
食欲は記憶力を強くするのである。
