Introduction

もし昭和を代表する政治家・田中角栄が平成だけでなく令和の時代まで生き、政治の第一線に立っていたら、何を語り、どのような日本を目指したのでしょうか。本記事は、田中角栄本人が自らを振り返りながら、日本の未来について語るという設定の創作エッセイです。地方創生、経済再生、人口減少、デジタル化、そして人と人との絆――。時代が変わっても変わらない「人間のための政治」を、彼の語り口で想像してみましょう。

What would Kakuei Tanaka have said if he had lived not only through the Heisei era but also into the Reiwa era and remained an active politician? This fictional essay imagines him reflecting on Japan’s future. It explores regional revitalization, economic recovery, population decline, digital transformation, and human connections.

第1章　私は日本の隅々まで元気にしたかった

Chapter 1: I Wanted to Revitalize Every Corner of Japan

私は田中角栄だ。もし平成から令和まで政治をしていたなら、まず地方へ向かっただろう。東京だけが発展しても、それで日本が豊かになったとは言えない。新潟も、九州も、北海道も、離島も山村も元気であってこそ、本当の意味で豊かな国だ。私は道路を造り、鉄道を延ばし、地方に産業を呼び込み、若者が故郷で夢を持てる日本をつくろうとしたはずだ。

I am Kakuei Tanaka. If I had remained in politics through the Heisei and Reiwa eras, I would have gone first to the regions. A country is not truly prosperous if only Tokyo develops. Japan can flourish only when every region thrives.

第2章　平成の長い停滞に、私は挑んだだろう

Chapter 2: I Would Have Challenged Heisei’s Long Stagnation

平成の日本は長い不景気に苦しんだ。私はそんな時代だからこそ、政治が前に出なければならないと思う。仕事がないなら仕事を生み出せばいい。お金が回らないなら回る仕組みをつくればいい。国民が下を向いているときこそ、政治家は「明日は今日より少し良くなる」と語らなければならない。

Japan struggled with a long economic stagnation during the Heisei era. In such times, politics must step forward and give people hope.

第3章　令和の課題は、人口減少と地方の衰退だ

Chapter 3: Reiwa’s Challenge Is Population Decline and Regional Decline

しかし、令和の日本は平成以上に厳しい時代かもしれない。人口は減り、地方では空き家が増え、学校が統廃合され、商店街から灯りが消えている。

私はこう言いたい。

「まだ間に合う。」

地方に仕事をつくり、子育てを支援し、医療や交通を守り、人々が安心して暮らせる地域をつくればいい。政治とは、衰退をただ見ていることではない。未来を変えるために行動することなのだ。

However, Reiwa may be an even more challenging era. Population decline and regional decay require action, not resignation.

第4章　デジタルの時代だからこそ、人間を忘れてはならない

Chapter 4: Even in the Digital Age, We Must Not Forget Humanity

令和はAIやデジタルの時代だ。役所の手続きも、買い物も、仕事も、画面一つで済む時代になった。しかし私は言いたい。

「人間は数字ではない。」

政治家は現場を歩かなければならない。農家の話を聞き、商店街を歩き、高齢者や若者の声を聞かなければならない。画面だけを見ていては、本当の日本の姿は見えないからだ。

Reiwa is the age of AI and digital technology, but politics must never forget real people and their lives.

第5章　私は人と人とのつながりを信じる

Chapter 5: I Believe in Human Connections

私の時代は、人と人が膝を突き合わせて話をした。令和ではSNSが瞬時に情報を広げる。便利になった一方で、人と人との距離が遠くなったようにも感じる。

しかし、どんな時代でも政治の基本は変わらない。

人を信じることだ。

人の苦しみを自分の苦しみとして感じることだ。

国民の暮らしを少しでも良くしようと努力することだ。

それが政治家の使命だと、私は今でも思っている。

I still believe that politics begins with trust, empathy, and a sincere desire to improve people’s lives.

第6章　もし私が令和の政治家だったなら

Chapter 6: If I Were a Politician in the Reiwa Era

もし私が令和の政治家だったなら、私は何度でも地方へ足を運ぶだろう。過疎の村へ行き、漁港へ行き、商店街へ行き、人々の話を聞くだろう。

そして、こう語るに違いない。

「日本はまだやれる。」

「地方には力がある。」

「人には未来を切り開く力がある。」

私は最後まで、日本列島の隅々まで光を当てる政治を諦めない。

それが私、田中角栄という政治家だからである。

If I were a politician in the Reiwa era, I would keep traveling throughout Japan, listening to its people, and reminding them that Japan still has the strength to build a better future.

もし田中角栄が平成だけでなく令和まで生きていたなら、人口減少やデジタル化という新たな課題に向き合いながらも、「地方を元気にし、人々に希望を与える」という信念だけは変えなかったでしょう。時代は変わっても、人を中心に据える政治の大切さを、彼の架空の独白は私たちに改めて教えてくれます。
